THE OSCAR’S HERS
Talk about your outrageous snubs! Kenneth Turan, that great arbiter of taste, does not include Madonna in “Evita” among his possibilities for a best actress Oscar (“The Ins and Outs of Oscar,” Jan. 5).
Considering that every thinking person agrees that this was the role Madonna was born to play, that she carries the entire $60-million epic, and that even the Argentines are immensely impressed with her performance, what excuse other than some prejudice toward the actress is there to omit her name?
If the Oscar ceremony means anything, it must mean that the award goes to the actress who has given a great, indeed legendary, performance regardless of what people think of her personal life. If that is the case then, to quote a phrase, “the Oscar goes to Madonna.”
