Tourism in Israel declined noticeably in 1996, apparently as a result of stalled peace talks and deadly violence, the Central Statistics Bureau reported. The number of visitors through the end of November was almost 2.2 million, 7.2% lower than last year. December figures are not yet available. . . . The Conrad International Punta del Este Resort and Casino in Uruguay opened its casino, restaurant and entertainment lounge this month. Its 302 rooms are scheduled to open this fall. The casino is billed as South America’s first Las Vegas-style facility, offering 63 gaming tables, 450 slot machines and entertainment. Information: 011-598-429-1111.
