NAACP on Thomas

I am a black male. I am certainly not a Clarence Thomas fan and I definitely do not subscribe to his political ideologies. But this thing about the NAACP in Delaware, threatening to protest his speaking at a youth festival because “he isn’t a role model for black youth,” is totally absurd (Jan. 6).

As my dad used to say, “This is a shame before God.” Here is a man who rose from poverty to be a judge in the highest court of our land--the U.S. Supreme Court. Regardless of one’s political philosophy, or even race, if this man isn’t a role model for young blacks, who is--Tupac Shakur or O.J. Simpson? I know that I would never pass up an opportunity for my kid to hear him speak.

Have we come to the place where all blacks must think the same and subscribe to the same politics? This is crazy and scary.
