St. Joachim Students to See Inauguration
Students from St. Joachim Catholic School’s seventh and eighth grades are traveling to Washington on Saturday for President Clinton’s inauguration and a tour of historic sites.
Parents, 32 students and two teachers plan to stand between the Washington Monument and the Capitol Building on Monday as the president takes the oath of office for the second time.
“It is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and I think they will get an opportunity to see the democratic process in action,” said Martha Harper, spokeswoman for the school. “We had about 1,000 bake sales, spaghetti dinners and pancake breakfasts to fund this.”
The trip was arranged through an educational travel agency.
After the ceremony, the students will attend an inaugural ball for teens. They also plan to tour national museums, monuments and memorials before returning to Orange County on Wednesday.
