Hebert in Company of Stars

Goaltender Guy Hebert had a sudden change of weekend plans Wednesday, when he was added to the roster for the NHL All-Star game Saturday in San Jose, replacing injured Detroit goalie Chris Osgood.

“Had to cancel a trip to Vegas,” Hebert said with a grin. “‘It was certainly out of left field.”

Osgood pulled a groin muscle midway through Detroit’s 3-3 tie against the Kings on Tuesday. Hebert, who recovered from a poor start to lower his goals-against average to 2.73 and improve his save percentage to .915., was picked to fill in.

“He’s well-deserving,” Duck Coach Ron Wilson said.

Deserving, but definitely surprised. “You always like to think maybe some day you’ll be in that company,” Hebert said. “I was happy just being on the ballot, I won’t kid you.”

Hebert’s selection--the first of his career--puts three Ducks in the game. Paul Kariya was selected by fans and Teemu Selanne was added as an injury replacement.
