Specials, New Series, Golden Globes Due
It’s a big weekend for specials and series premieres.
The Divine Miss M, Bette Midler, headlines her first TV concert in 13 years, “Diva Las Vegas,” airing tonight at 9 on HBO. Midler performs such tunes as “The Rose” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” in this concert taped at the MGM Grand.
Following “Diva” at 11 p.m. is the second-season premiere of Tracey Ullman’s award-winning comedy series “Tracey Takes On. . . .” The topic of tonight’s episode is sex.
Showtime’s popular anthology series “The Outer Limits” kicks off its third season Sunday at 8 p.m. with back-to-back episodes featuring Natasha Henstridge and Howie Mandel.
“Talking About Sports,” Sunday at 9:30 p.m. on KCOP-TV Channel 13, is a new weekly sports show that will feature coverage of notable games as well as in-studio guests.
“The English Patient” leads the pack of movie nominations on “The 54th Annual Golden Globe Awards,” Sunday at 8 p.m. on Channel 4. The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. sponsors the awards, honoring the best in film and television. Dustin Hoffman is to receive the special Cecil B. DeMille Award.
Mikhail Baryshnikov, Candice Bergen and Whoopi Goldberg are among the stars featured in CBS’ “53rd Presidential Inaugural Gala,” airing Sunday at 9 p.m. on Channel 2.
