Failed Dealership May Get $3 Million
A Superior Court jury in Los Angeles awarded $3 million to owners of a failed Orange County Nissan dealership who claimed that Carson-based Nissan Motor Co. U.S.A. forced them out of business in favor of another dealer. Nissan said it plans to appeal. Jurors found that Nissan deliberately concealed a desire to close the Nissan of Cypress dealership when Orange County-based HWB Automotive Group Inc. acquired the facility in 1991. Industry observers said the verdict marks one of the few times a dealer has prevailed over the factory in a dealership location dispute.
