First of Weak Storms Hits; More to Follow

The first in a series of weak and wet cold fronts moved through Ventura County on Monday morning, dousing commuters and starting what forecasters said would be a week of sporadic rain.

Ventura received about 0.2 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service. Although the service issued an urban and small-stream flood advisory for the county’s southeast corner, covering the Santa Monica Mountains and Thousand Oaks, no flooding was reported. The advisories expired at noon.

Meteorologist Bruce Rockwell said that showers would return, off and on, until Thursday, with a 20% chance of rain today.

“These are just weak fronts coming through,” he said. “It’s nothing very organized, but just enough to kick off a few showers.”

Despite the wet roads, police reported few accidents throughout the county. An Oxnard woman was injured when, at 10:20 a.m., her car collided with a truck at the intersection of Los Posas Road and East 5th Street, south of Camarillo.

Flora Hernandez was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where she was listed in fair condition with a broken pelvis and broken ribs on Monday night.
