Public Input Sought for Design of Center

Organizers of a joint community center planned by the cities of Agoura Hills and Calabasas will seek community input about the project’s design elements and features at a meeting Thursday night.

Although there is a design committee for the center, the cities’ parks and recreation staff members are soliciting public comment as well.

“It’s an opportunity for the community to come out and hear a little bit about the project and provide input on what they would like to see in the community center,” said Agoura Hills Community Services Director Audrey Brown.

The center will cost the two cities a total of $4.5 million, of which each city will use $1 million from the county’s Proposition A monies.

The public will have an opportunity to discuss design elements with the committee, and to suggest activities and features they would like to see there.

The center, to be located on 4.5 acres on Malibu Hills Road near the border between Agoura Hills and Calabasas, is to be a 27,000-square-foot facility with a full-size gymnasium, weight room and health facilities, a dance room, locker rooms and showers. It also will have a conference room, activity rooms and an office area. Construction is expected to begin in the fall.
