Dog Park Proponents Planning Fund-Raiser

Although they don’t know if they will succeed in getting a dog park to open here, local activists are already planning a fund-raiser to operate the park.

Sabrina Hall and other dog park supporters hope the city will lease land from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Fullerton dam for the park. She said Fullerton officials are negotiating to use the corner of Bastanchury and Associated roads for unleashed dogs.

If successful, Hall and her supporters, who call themselves Friends of Fullerton’s Dog Park, must submit a proposal, site plans and conduct an environmental study. They also will have to propose how the park would be maintained.

Hall estimates the annual maintenance cost at about $5,000, which her group proposes to pay.

To raise money, Hall is organizing a $25 trip to Nevada, leaving on buses at 6:30 a.m. April 5 and returning that night.

“We’ll be gambling and raffling doggy gift bags along the way and all the proceeds will benefit the dog park,” she said.

She said dozens of people have already signed up for the trip, but she’s hoping hundreds of people want to go.

“This is just a start,” Hall said. “I want a dog park so bad.”
