Ten candidates have filed nomination petitions for the upcoming Glendale City Council election, City Clerk Aileen Boyle said Thursday.

Council members Sheldon Baker, Rick Reyes and Mary Ann Plumley, who were all elected in 1993 and are completing their first terms in office, will seek reelection. Challengers seeking spots on the ballot are former Councilwoman Virginia “Ginger” Bremberg, homeowners’ association activists David Weaver and Michael Smith, prosecutor Gustavo Gomez, former city traffic engineer Khatan Bayati and perennial candidates John Beach and David Wallis.

City Clerk Boyle and City Treasurer Elizabeth Evans also filed nomination papers and will seek reelection unopposed. Candidates for the Glendale school board and community college board have until next Friday to submit the documents.

Candidates are required to submit petitions with 500 registered voter signatures. The county registrar will verify the petitions and within a week determine which candidates qualify for the April 1 election ballot, Boyle said.
