Bomb Scare Gave KCAL Reel Concerns

KCAL’s telecast of Saturday night’s 2-2 tie between the Kings and the Mighty Ducks at the Forum was never in jeopardy despite the bomb scare outside the station in Hollywood.

“But we almost had a telecast without any commercials,” producer Bob Borgen said. “Fortunately, before KCAL had to be evacuated, an employee took out the commercial reel.”

The only problem for KCAL was that instead of sending the game’s signal back to the station, it had to use an alternate site, the Hollywood Production Group, known for producing ESPN’s “Up Close.”
