Spotlight: AT&T; Follows MCI Into Local Business Market

AT&T; Corp. said it plans to launch local calling services for small and medium-size business customers in California. The move follows that of rival MCI Communications Corp., which has been offering local service to business customers in 25 U.S. cities since last year using its own network facilities. AT&T; said the service, aimed at companies that spend up to $2,500 a month on telecom services, is possible because of a resale deal with Pacific Telesis Group, parent of Pacific Bell, which serves most of the state.
