More than 7,400 registered voters will not have the opportunity to cast their ballots for candidates running for seats on the Oak Park Unified School District and the community’s municipal advisory council until 1998.

Elections for the two agencies had been scheduled this year. The county Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday to move the elections to next year and all subsequent even years as a cost-saving measure.

The consolidation is expected to decrease costs by sharing expenses with other agencies that customarily hold elections in even years and increase voter turnout.

“They’ve been paying about $6,000, now they would pay about $2,000,” said Bruce Bradley, assistant registrar of voters.

The three members of each panel who faced reelection this year will have their terms extended until 1998.
