Airport Will Get New Noise Monitors

The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to purchase a $1.4-million noise monitoring system at John Wayne Airport and move the airport’s administrative offices.

The airport now leases four buildings for its administrative staff. Officials plan to move the offices into one building on Airway Avenue that is owned by the county.

It will cost $1.5 million to $2 million to renovate the building, but officials said the plan will save $1 million in lease payments over the first five years.

Officials said the new noise monitors will supplement a noise monitoring system installed in 1979. The new system is required under a noise agreement struck several years ago between John Wayne Airport and neighboring communities.
