Human Tests Slated for Anti-Flu Drug
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Human tests will start this year on a drug scientists hope will eliminate the flu, drug researchers said. Preliminary tests on several animal species show the compound, known as GS 4104, is effective in preventing influenza and treating it once someone gets sick. Although the drug developers from Gilead Sciences Inc. held a news conference to describe their high hopes based on animal studies, extensive testing must be done to establish that it is safe and effective in people.
