Mission Viejo, Manica Stop No. 2 Mater Dei

Melissa Manica scored in the 63rd minute to break a 1-1 tie as host Mission Viejo, ranked fifth in Orange County, beat No. 2 Mater Dei, 2-1, in a South Coast League girls’ soccer game Thursday at Mission Viejo High.

Alison Fennell of Mater Dei (12-4, 3-2 in league) had tied it, 1-1, about five minutes before Manica’s winning goal.

Whitney Hughes scored a first-half goal to give Mission Viejo (14-3-4, 3-1-2) a 1-0 lead.

In other South Coast League games:

Capistrano Valley 3, Dana Hills 2--Top-ranked Capistrano Valley (14-2-3, 4-0-1) scored three goals in the first half, two by Elizabeth Delgado in the first five minutes, and held off Dana Hills (9-5-2, 1-2-2). Andrea Warner scored in the first half and Kiley Hamilton scored in the second half for seventh-ranked Dana Hills.

Trabuco Hills 4, San Clemente 0--Megan Schlegel had two assists and Nicole Arquilla scored the winning goal in the first-half to lead Trabuco Hills (8-4-4, 1-2-2). Lisa Casey scored the second goal, her first since returning from a broken collarbone she suffered in November.

In the Empire League:

Kennedy 2, Katella 0--Michelle Maitland and Michelle Cross scored in the first half for Kennedy (14-5, 5-1).

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 1, Sunny Hills 1 (OT)--Sunny Hills’ Megan Bagdonas and La Habra’s Kim Patterson scored first half goals and the teams remained tied for first place.

Troy 2, Buena Park 0--Melissa Paramo and Holly Petersen scored second-half goals for visiting Troy (11-5-3, 3-2-1).

Fullerton 1, Sonora 0--Freshman Lauren Duggins scored from 40 yards out in the 36th minute for Fullerton (5-9-2, 1-3-2).

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 5, Los Amigos 0--Amanda Freed had four goals and assisted on the other for first-place Pacifica (11-6, 8-0).

Garden Grove 2, Santiago 0--Lucy Chittenden and Rhiannon Lee scored goals for host Garden Grove (7-5-2, 5-1-1).

In the Golden West League:

Santa Ana 2, Saddleback 1--Melanie Fults scored both goals for Santa Ana (7-8-1, 2-4). Griselda Ramirez scored in the second half for Saddleback.

Rosary 1, Ocean View 0--After making two saves as goalkeeper in the first half, Therese McNatt switched positions at halftime, and scored the only goal of the game in the 50th minute for Rosary (7-8-2, 4-0-1). Stephanie Sharpe made four saves in the second half to preserve Rosary’s third shutout of the season.

Westminster 2, Tustin 0--Lacey Hauxhurst scored in the 19th minute and Susie Packard scored in the 45th minute for Westminster (12-3-1, 3-1-1). Goalkeeper Lesley Hoyt made three saves for her ninth shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Deborah Nuusolia made 11 saves for Tustin (5-10-1, 2-4).

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 5, Connelly 2--Amy Hammer scored two second-half goals for host Whittier Christian (8-5-1, 6-5-1).

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 5, Magnolia 0--Tennli Ulicny scored two first-half goals for ninth-ranked Brea Olinda (18-3-1, 6-0). Goalkeeper Amanda Eatmon had 12 saves for Magnolia (3-13-1, 1-4-1).

Valencia 3, Western 0--Alejandra Nunez scored her 12th goal of the season in the first-half and Lauren Jacobs added two goals in the second-half to lead Valencia (10-2-4, 5-1). Molly Shaffer recorded her eighth shutout.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 4, Costa Mesa 1--Michelle Basanda and Cindy Johnson each scored two goals in the first half for visiting Aliso Niguel (6-8-1, 3-2-1).

Laguna Hills 2, Estancia 0--Andrea Kosciuk and Vanessa Gillis each scored a goal to lead Laguna Hills (14-6, 6-0), which is ranked eighth in the county. April Peron assisted on both goals.

In the Sea View League:

Woodbridge 5, El Toro 1--Lizzy Lemire, Katie Ogden, Coral Bain and Holly Robison scored second-half goals for unranked Woodbridge (11-7-3, 3-2-1), breaking a 1-1 tie at halftime. Annie Jacobs scored in the first half for El Toro (10-5-5, 3-1-2), ranked 10th in the county.

Irvine 5, Corona del Mar 1--Missy Painter scored two second-half goals for Irvine (9-6-5, 2-1-3). Meghan Bryan scored for Corona del Mar (1-4-1).

Santa Margarita 3, Newport Harbor 0--Maresa Zanetti had a goal and an assist for host Santa Margarita (10-1-3, 4-0-2), ranked third in the county and second in Division II.
