Glendale, Hoover Fail to Settle Score
Goalie Romen Nazaryan made eight saves for Hoover (4-6-4, 1-2-4) and counterpart David Aguilar stopped three shots for Glendale (11-5-3, 2-1-3) as the Pacific League rivals battled to a 0-0 tie Tuesday at Hoover.
The match’s best scoring chance came in the 66th minute when Carlos Mejia was denied on a breakaway by Aguilar.
Rio Mesa 3, Oxnard 2--Jaime Ambriz scored three goals for the Spartans (12-1-4, 7-0-4) but he was ejected after the third score for taunting in a Channel League match at Oxnard.
Ambriz, a senior forward who has 17 goals this season and 55 in his varsity career, will miss Thursday’s important league match against Buena.
St. Bonaventure 2, Carpinteria 1--Brian Schweppe capitalized on a failed clearing attempt and scored the winning goal with 13 minutes to play for the Seraphs (3-12-1, 2-7) in a Tri-Valley League match at St. Bonaventure.
Oak Park 2, Fillmore 0--Aaron Benditson and Erik Sesma scored and the visiting Eagles (11-5-1, 7-3) defeated the Flashes (12-1, 9-1) for the first time in three Tri-Valley League meetings.
Kennedy 1, Taft 1--Joaquin Trejo scored early in the second half to give Kennedy (8-7-2, 5-3-2) a tie with the Toreadors (0-8-5, 0-4-5) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Taft.
Cesar Pouzeaud scored his 14th goal for the Toreadors.
San Fernando 1, Birmingham 1--Pablo Lastorta converted a first-half penalty shot for Birmingham (9-0-5, 6-0-5) before Fernando Reese scored later for the visiting Tigers (4-4-4, 3-4-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.
Cleveland 2, Granada Hills 1--Roberto Gonzalez scored the winning goal in the second half for the Cavaliers (9-2-4, 4-1-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference victory over the Highlanders (3-6-4, 1-6-3) at Granada Hills.
Eli Romero scored for the Highlanders.
Verdugo Hills 3, Wilson 1--Solivan Chacon scored two goals for the Dons (6-8-1, 5-4-1) in a Northern Conference match at Wilson.
Saugus 1, Valencia 0--Jeff Hammond scored his 25th goal of the season for the Centurions (15-3-3, 4-1-1) with just under 10 minutes remaining in a Foothill League match at Valencia.
Burbank 2, Canyon 2--Ramon Simental and Jimmy Giordano scored for the Cowboys (10-6-3, 2-2-3) in a Foothill League match at Canyon.
Alex Issa and Irving Reyes scored for Burbank (0-5-2 in league play).
GIRLS
Buena 1, Dos Pueblos 0--Megan Munday scored in the 75th minute, lifting the Bulldogs (15-2-4, 8-0-3) in a Channel League match at Buena.
Rio Mesa 4, Oxnard 0--Karina Molthu scored in the first half and Renee Shadforth, Shea McCormick and Robin Roberts scored in the second for the Spartans (3-11-4, 1-7-3) in a Channel League win over the Yellowjackets (2-8-3, 0-7-3) at Rio Mesa.
Santa Barbara 1, Ventura 0--Meghan Moore scored 15 minutes into a Channel League match at Santa Barbara.
