Woman, 75, Dies Following Accident
An elderly Ventura woman died Thursday after she was struck by a minivan and dragged a short distance along Telephone Road, authorities said.
Rosa Martinez, 75, died during emergency surgery at Ventura County Medical Center after the accident.
According to Cpl. John Turner of the Ventura Police Department, Martinez was struck by the minivan driven by Corey Blair, 33, of Ventura at about 9:40 a.m. while she was walking along a sidewalk on the north side of Telephone Road, between Victoria Avenue and County Square Drive.
Police said Blair was pulling out of a driveway when he hit Martinez and dragged her onto the road.
The Ventura County Fire Department removed Martinez from under the van and took her to the hospital. Turner said officers are continuing their investigation and are unsure whether any charges would be filed against Blair. He said alcohol was not involved.
Turner added that investigators are looking for further witnesses to the accident, specifically the driver of a white, full-sized Ford truck, who stopped at the driveway where the accident occurred.
Anyone with information is asked to call Turner at 339-4435.
