March, Service Aim to Stop the Violence
In an effort to help turn the tide against youth violence, El Concilio del Condado de Ventura and the Oxnard Gang Prevention, Art and Mural Program will hold a “Stop the Violence” march at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Marchers will assemble at 400 S. B St. and march to 5345 Meta St., where they will participate in a two-hour prayer service to remember past victims and listen to speeches on the community’s need to curb the violence on city streets.
Pastors Bernice Gomez, Jinnie and Joe Valdez and Gus Cortez will lead the prayer session. Featured speakers include El Concilio’s Ricardo Melendez, Susie Pech Torres and several elected officials.
At 4 p.m. marchers will return to the starting point for a reception and barbecue.
