28 Fall Ill During Filming of TV Ad
An illness that swept through the crew of a TV company filming a car commercial on a Hancock Park street Thursday sent 28 people to the hospital, 10 of them in serious condition, authorities said. The victims said they had just finished eating a catered meal, and some speculated that bad seafood may have caused the illness, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said. After the meal, victims suffered symptoms including skin rash, hives, nausea, vomiting and, in the most severe cases, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath. The most seriously ill were two men, ages 54 and 47, authorities said. There were about 60 to 70 people on the set of the commercial for French television at North Hudson Avenue near Beverly Boulevard.
