Stein Scolds Hahn Over Sex Harassment Case
Ted Stein, who is running against Los Angeles City Atty. James K. Hahn in the April 8 election, on Thursday called on Hahn to give himself a five-day suspension for allegedly retaliating against an employee who had complained of sexual harassment.
Stein issued a statement on the subject three days after he held a news conference with Deputy City Atty. Ruth Ebner, who accused Hahn of fostering a “hostile work environment” and punishing those who complain. Ebner’s 1992 sexual harassment grievance and her 1996 complaint that Hahn had retaliated against her were both settled in her favor, and she eventually was promoted.
Neither Hahn nor an assistant city attorney who was named in Ebner’s original complaint were ever suspended, Stein said.
