Jobless Benefits
Re “State Exempts 25 Counties From Federal Welfare Rules,” Feb. 20: Some welfare reform! Nearly half of California’s counties are granted waivers from requirements to cut off food stamps for those not finding jobs. Granted, the unemployment rate is high in those counties. Maybe people in those counties should consider moving elsewhere to find work rather than rely on the taxpayer to pay their bills.
If we don’t require people on the public dole to find employment, the whole welfare reform effort will come crashing down and the taxpayers will still be stuck with the high bill that currently exists. When will people start taking responsibility for their own lives?
