Council Backs Defense of El Toro Airport
Following a long pattern of backing a proposed commercial airport at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, the City Council has unanimously voted to support legal efforts on behalf of the project.
The council’s action endorses the county’s legal defense of its environmental impact report and reuse plan for El Toro. That plan calls for converting the military field to a civilian airport. Foes of a new airport are challenging both the county’s environmental impact report and the suggested conversion.
Councilman Bob Bell noted that the City Council has continually supported a new airport. He said Villa Park’s support of the county’s legal efforts entails no expense to the city.
