Ocegueda to Face Ludwig Tonight
IRVINE — Welterweight Jaime Ocegueda, who made a name for himself by upsetting top contender Mark Lewis last September, will face Marco Antonio Ludwig of Acapulco, Mexico, in tonight’s main event at the Irvine Marriott.
A month after losing a 10-round decision to Ocegueda at the Marriott, Lewis upset Carlos Gonzalez, the World Boxing Organization’s No. 1 contender in the junior welterweight division.
Ocegueda (15-1-3, seven knockouts), of Pico Rivera, fought journeyman Russell Mosley to a 10-round draw in November at the Marriott but has been inactive while going through a managerial change. Ramirez (24-10-1, 19 knockouts), of Acapulco, is coming off 10-round decision losses to prospects Ross Thompson and Manny Sobral.
The semi-main event is a six-round junior welterweight bout between Alvaro Velasquez (5-4, five knockouts) of Westminster and Danny Perez (5-1, two knockouts) of San Diego. The featured undercard fight is a five-rounder between Lloyd Weaver of Diamond Bar and Nick Martinez (3-0, three knockouts) of Bassett.
The fights begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25, $30 and $35, half price for youths 16 and younger.
