Florez Surrenders a Hit, Birmingham Gets a Run to Defeat San Fernando
Alberto Florez pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine in Birmingham High’s 1-0 victory over San Fernando in a Northwest Valley Conference baseball game Tuesday at Birmingham.
Florez gave up a single in the first inning but allowed only three walks after that for the Braves (9-8, 1-2 in conference play).
Tony Paizano scored on a throwing error by San Fernando (9-4, 0-3) in the third inning.
Quartz Hill 9, Highland 0--Ryan West had three hits and drove in three runs for the Rebels (9-3, 1-1) in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill.
Mark Madsen (4-1) pitched a four-hitter, striking out seven and walking one.
Moorpark 9, Santa Paula 7--Taylor Slimak hit a two-run double and Chris Doan hit a two-run single to highlight a seven-run rally for the Musketeers (7-5, 2-0) in the sixth inning of a Channel League game at Moorpark.
Aaron Pettitt had three hits and drove in four runs for the Cardinals (1-8, 1-2).
Calabasas 14, Santa Clara 4--Brian Fatur extended his hitting streak to 25 games with four hits, including a home run and a triple, and also had four stolen bases and three RBIs for the Coyotes (12-2, 3-0) in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.
Josh Goldfield had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in four runs for the Coyotes.
Notre Dame 4, Glenn 2--Chris Morell had two hits and drove in a run for the Knights (10-3) in a St. Paul tournament pool play game.
Notre Dame plays Crespi in the championship game tonight at 8 at Cal State L.A.
Sylmar 10, Reseda 2--Clemente Ortega had three hits and scored four runs for the Spartans a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Reseda.
Miguel Flores had two hits and two RBIs for Sylmar (6-6, 3-0).
Chris Cervantes surrendered four hits in six innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
Grant 2, Monroe 1--Bryan Levine (1-3) pitched six innings for the Lancers (5-8, 2-1), scattering five hits while striking out four and walking one in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant.
The Lancers scored in the second inning when Dennis Moran escaped a rundown by the Vikings (5-7, 0-3) to come home on a double steal and Julio Cortez singled home Augustine Quevedo.
North Hollywood 19, Canoga Park 7--Merrill Dunn had three hits, including two home runs, drove in four runs and scored four, and Ismael Rangsiyawong had four hits, including a double and a home run, and drove in five runs for the Huskies (11-2, 3-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at North Hollywood.
The Huskies hit five home runs.
Poly 15, Van Nuys 2--Gus Banuelos (4-3) pitched a three-hitter, struck out 10 and hit two home runs and drove in five runs for the Parrots (8-8, 3-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys.
Cleveland 12, Chatsworth 0--Mike Schultz pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10, and Max Santillan hit a three-run triple in the first inning for the Cavaliers (7-5, 3-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Cleveland.
El Camino Real 23, Granada Hills 0--Shaun Fishman pitched a three-hitter and struck out 14 in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Granada Hills.
Hueneme 12, Ventura 7--Francisco Camarena and Pedro Cervantes each had three hits and drove in two runs, and Chris Neri had two hits and two RBIs for the Vikings (9-2, 5-0) in a Channel League game at Ventura.
Burroughs 10, Saugus 3--Anthony Fabrizio had a double and a home run for the Indians (7-4, 3-0) in a Foothill League game at Saugus.
Ryan Sage hit a solo home run for Saugus (5-7-1, 2-2).
Canyon 5, Burbank 3--Steve Lombardi had two hits, including a home run, and Jason Willis added two hits and two RBIs for the Cowboys (4-5, 2-2) in a Foothill League game at Burbank.
