Titans Defeat Cal State Sacramento in Baseball
Cal State Fullerton scored two runs in four different innings to defeat Cal State Sacramento, 9-5, in a Big West Conference baseball game Friday at Sacramento.
C.J. Ankrum was two for three with a run batted in and three runs scored for the Titans (21-14, 9-4).
Pitcher Matt Wise (2-5) limited Sacramento (11-24, 3-10) to one run on three hits in six innings, striking out eight and walking one. Mike Greenlee pitched 1 1/3 innings of perfect relief to pick up his second save.
In another Big West game:
Long Beach State 10, Pacific 4--Winning pitcher Rocky Biddle (6-3) had 13 strikeouts for the 49ers (21-13, 12-1).
In nonconference baseball:
Chapman 12, Whittier 0--Dusty Martin was four for five with a home run and three RBIs and Mike Konkol was three for four with two doubles and three runs scored for Chapman (16-9), which has won seven consecutive games.
Josh LaRocca (5-2) pitched seven innings, giving up two hits and striking out seven, and Justin Miner pitched two innings in relief, giving up one hit while striking out four.
In Big West Conference softball:
Long Beach State 2-3, New Mexico State 1-1 (first game eight innings)--Amy Miner’s sacrifice fly drove in Tiffany Blood with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning of the first game for the 49ers (27-12-1, 9-5). Amanda Adams was two for two with a run scored and an RBI in the second game.
In the UC San Diego Power Bar Softball Classic:
Chapman 7, UC San Diego 1--The Panthers also beat Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 10-2, and advanced into today’s semifinals.
In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s tennis:
Southern California College 7, Biola 2--Serena Xie and Carin Crawford won their singles matches, 6-0, 6-0, for SCC (10-8).
In nonconference women’s tennis:
Chapman 6, Whittier 3--Deborah Denio (13-3) won in singles, 7-5, 6-0, for Chapman (3-9). Denio and Jocelyn Leyretana won in doubles, 8-5, for Chapman, to improve their doubles record to 8-3.
In the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, Loyola Marymount 0--Chris Harger had 23 kills to lead UC Irvine (5-14, 4-12), which ended a seven-game losing streak, 15-3, 15-13, 15-13. Harger also had seven blocks. Jon Habben had 18 kills and six digs for the Anteaters.
