Vigil to Memorialize Crime Victims
People who have lost loved ones to violent crimes will gather Sunday at the Crime Victims Monument in Brea for a candlelight vigil and remembrance.
Parents of Murdered Children, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and Memory Garden Memorial Park and Mortuary are sponsoring the fifth annual event that honors the dead and comforts survivors.
“This is not only for parents, there are people from MADD who have lost someone, anyone who has lost a family member through violence,” said Joe Pascale, whose daughter was murdered in 1985.
Speakers will include U.S. Rep. Ed Royce, (R-Fullerton); Rabbi Bernard King; Collene Campbell, a member of Parents of Murdered Children; and victims’ rights advocate Liz Swasey.
The victims monument was dedicated in 1992 with money raised at bake sales and carwashes by the parents group and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
The vigil is free and open to the public.
Participants plan to gather at 6 p.m. Sunday in front of the monument at Memory Garden Memorial Park, 455 W. Central Ave., Brea.
