Garden Grove District to Reopen 2 Elementary Schools
GARDEN GROVE — Two elementary schools will reopen in as many years in the Garden Grove Unified School District as officials move to ease overcrowding, accommodate reduced class sizes and postpone implementation of year-round schools.
In approving the reopening of leased schools, the Board of Education voted Tuesday night to open Skylark School, 11250 MacMurray St., in September and Simmons School, 11602 Steele Drive, the following September.
The move will require a county-operated Head Start program and a private program for severely disabled students to find new quarters.
Opening Skylark School this fall will require about $720,000, including busing more than 300 students from Heritage Elementary School to the new campus.
