Canyons Gets Even With Glendale, 9-1
Doug Segraves and Hiram Damwijk each had three hits and three runs batted in for College of the Canyons in a 9-1 victory over host Glendale on Thursday, causing a three-way tie for first place in the Western State Conference baseball race.
The Cougars (26-11, 13-6 in conference play) pulled even with the Vaqueros (24-11, 13-6) and Bakersfield, which defeated Pierce, 7-2.
Canyons reversed a 12-7 loss to Glendale earlier in the season.
Segraves hit a two-out, two-run home run in the first inning.
Brett Niles drove in Glendale’s run on a fourth-inning double.

Cuesta 20, Ventura 7--Cuesta collected 21 hits against seven Pirate pitchers in a WSC game at Ventura.
Jeremy Pierce hit his 11th home run of the season for Ventura (20-13, 9-10) to tie the school record set by Darren Reed in 1984.
Mission 8, Valley 5--Jaime Cerna and Eli Albertson each had two RBIs and Jose Sandoval had two hits and an RBI for the Free Spirit (17-19, 8-11) in a WSC game at Mission.
Cerna earned a save by allowing one hit in three innings, striking out three.
Casey Roth had two hits and an RBI for Valley (6-27, 5-14).
SOFTBALL
Pierce 13, Santa Monica 2--Kelly Labor hit a bases-loaded triple to highlight a nine-run third inning for the Brahmas (16-20, 6-8) in a WSC game at Santa Monica.
Anna Calzada hit a three-run home run in the first and an RBI single in the third for Pierce.
GOLF
SCIAC tournament--Rick Brown of Cal Lutheran and Ben Higgins of Pomona-Pitzer each shot one-under-par 70 at Sunset Hills Golf Course in Thousand Oaks. Three Kingsmen finished in the top five to give Cal Lutheran a 12-stroke lead over Redlands.
