License Left at Scene of Pileup Motorist Fled
HUNTINGTON BEACH — A motorist suspected of causing a five-vehicle pileup Friday night at Pacific Coast Highway and Warner Avenue apparently fled the scene on foot, police said, but left behind a driver’s license.
No one was injured in the 8 p.m. accident.
Witnesses said the driver of a late-model Chevrolet Camaro lost control on the highway and crashed into a pickup truck, propelling it through a pair of bus benches and into a shopping center parking lot.
The truck crushed a sports car before landing on a minivan, said Officer Bill Ferguson of the California Highway Patrol. A sport-utility vehicle in the lot was damaged by debris from the other cars.
Ferguson said investigators were seeking Richard Mottram Jr., 34, of Orange, whose driver’s license was found in the Camaro. Witnesses said the driver of the car resembled the photo on the license, the officer said.
