Habitat to Build 4 Homes in 9 Days
Kicking off what officials are calling a “building blitz” in Duarte, the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity affiliate today will begin an effort to build four homes in nine days.
“The paperwork is done. . . . The foundation is poured. We’re just waiting for volunteers to raise the walls,” said Clark Lu, senior director of the San Gabriel affiliate.
Residents have moved into 10 homes on the one-acre lot at 606 Euclid Ave. And after the next four go up, Habitat hopes to build two more.
Only two blocks from Maxwell Elementary School, the property was once a haven for drug users, but “now you see neighbors cleaning up their yards and waving at people,” Lu said. “It’s really changed.”
Habitat officials said they are still looking for volunteers for the nine-day build-a-thon. For more information, call (818) 398-9371.
