Times Names President of Valley, Ventura Editions
The Los Angeles Times on Monday named Julia C. Wilson as president of its San Fernando Valley and Ventura County editions, and as a vice president of The Times.
Wilson, 50, has been editor of The Times’ Ventura County edition since it was launched in 1990, and will now be responsible for the business operations of these two editions.
Wilson will report to Jeffrey S. Klein, who is The Times’ senior vice president of consumer marketing. Klein had been president of The Times’ Valley and Ventura County editions from 1991 through 1996.
“I’m excited about working with a first-rate team in Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley,” Wilson said. “Our goal remains the same: to produce an ever-stronger newspaper for our readers and advertisers.”
The Times’ Valley and Ventura County editions have a combined circulation of 226,535, and 309,054 on Sunday.
Times Publisher Richard T. Schlosberg III said Wilson’s”strong ties with the community, leadership skills and commitment to our regional success gives us an unbeatable competitive advantage and will further strengthen our position in the Valley and Ventura County.”
Wilson joined The Times in 1983 as editor of the South Bay suburban section and later became editor of the paper’s Southeast and Long Beach sections. She also served as Julia C. Wilson
California political editor for The Times and served as assistant editor for editorial hiring and development for the paper.
Before joining The Times, Wilson, who is a native of Florida, was deputy managing editor of the Orlando Sentinel. She also worked as a reporter for the Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville.
She has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of South Florida.
Wilson lives in Ventura.
Bill Overend, Ventura city editor, has been named acting editor of the Ventura County edition until Wilson’s replacement is named.
