Water Customers to Get $9.20 Rebates
Water customers in Newport Beach will see credits averaging $9.20 on their next bills.
The rebate comes courtesy of the Metropolitan Water District, which is passing on savings for water purchased during the 1995-96 fiscal year.
“Their costs were lower than anticipated and earnings were better,” said City Manager Kevin J. Murphy.
Newport Beach purchased nearly $6.5 million worth of water from the MWD during 1995-96. The city received a total rebate of $864,747.
Of that amount, $364,747 is being credited to customers while the remaining $500,000 will be used to offset future increases.
“We will definitely not see any rate increases next year because of this,” said Murphy.
