Conroy’s Suit Against Spitzer Dismissed
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has heaped more bad news on the plate of beleaguered former Assemblyman Mickey Conroy, dismissing his libel and slander suit against Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer.
Conroy, who is currently embroiled in a sexual harassment trial in Sacramento, filed the suit against Spitzer during the duo’s nasty battle for a county supervisor seat in October.
Conroy accused Spitzer of “repeatedly lying” about him to voters in speeches and campaign statements.
In a one-page ruling issued April 16, Judge Daniel Solis Pratt said “statements made by [Spitzer] during the campaign are either true (Mr. Conroy was reprimanded for sexual harassment, and thus found guilty by the Assembly) or based on reliable evidence (the reprimand and report of the Assembly, the newspaper articles, Conroy’s own statements).”
Jamie Morris Spitzer, Spitzer’s attorney and wife, said she expected the suit to be dismissed. Todd Spitzer “knew what he was saying was truthful to begin with,” she said.
But Mickey Conroy’s wife, Ann, said Monday that her husband has invested too much time and effort in the suit to give up and will appeal the decision.
