Hospital Upgrades Mayor Fry’s Condition
UCI Medical Center has upgraded the condition of Mayor Frank Fry Jr., injured Sunday in a car accident.
Fry, 71, is in good condition after exploratory surgery to stop internal bleeding, officials said. He will undergo another operation to repair his fractured hip.
“He’s progressing quite nicely” but is still in intensive care, said Sondra Evans, public information officer for the city.
Fry was injured when his car crashed into a tree along Trask Avenue in Garden Grove. Mechanical failure, possibly a blown tire, could have caused the single-car accident, which is under investigation, Garden Grove Police Capt. Dave Abrecht said.
Mayor Pro Tem Margie L. Rice is handling Fry’s duties while he recovers.
