2 Banks Robbed; Suspects Get Away
Los Angeles police are investigating two unrelated bank robberies in Northridge on Tuesday.
Two armed men walked into the TransWorld Bank in the 8000 block of Reseda Boulevard in Northridge about 11:30 a.m. and fled with an undetermined amount of money, said LAPD spokesman Jason Lee. No one was injured and no shots were fired.
A dye pack the robbers unknowingly took with the money exploded while they were driving away in a black Jeep Cherokee, Lee said.
The suspects fled on foot after the driver lost control of the vehicle and it collided with another car near the intersection of Roscoe and Reseda boulevards. Officers found a .45-caliber handgun in the abandoned vehicle, Lee said.
Two men detained near the scene were not the robbers, but they were arrested on suspicion of unrelated narcotics charges, Lee said.
The second robbery occurred in the early afternoon at a Sanwa Bank branch in the 16900 block of Nordhoff Street.
Los Angeles police had no details, except that no one was injured in the incident.
