Service Group Honors Backers at Luncheon
A luncheon Friday will honor Valley businesses and organizations that assist adults with developmental disabilities.
Guests at the New Horizons’ annual Community Donor Recognition Luncheon in North Hills are expected to include state Sen. Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley), Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica) and Assemblymen Tom McClintock (R-Northridge) and Tony Cardenas (D-Sylmar).
New Horizons, officially known as the San Fernando Assn. for the Retarded, has provided aid and vocational training to developmentally disabled people in the region for more than 40 years. The organization serves more than 500 adults in a variety of day and work training, job placement and residential programs.
The luncheon will mark the first time that New Horizons has been able to honor all of the organizations and businesses that support it in one event, said Joe Chu, New Horizons’ director of development and marketing.
“This is our way of showing appreciation to those who have supported us and allows us to demonstrate how their contributions are helping to make a difference in the lives of our clients,” Chu said.
Friday’s lunch will be held at New Horizons’ Sam Cafe, 15725 Parthenia St.
