Susan Roth never leaves home without her plastic surgeon.
Roth was struck by a puck during Game 3 on Sunday at America West Arena. Fortunately, the Scottsdale woman’s friend, Steven Gitt, a plastic surgeon, was sitting one row in front of her.
The puck flew off the stick of Coyote defenseman Gerald Diduck, over the Plexiglas and into the stands. It caromed off Roth’s nose in the ninth row, and bounced softly onto the armrest between Gitt and Susan’s husband, Bob Roth.
Both men grabbed for the chunk of vulcanized rubber, and Gitt won.
“I caught a puck! I thought it was the greatest thing that ever happened to me,” Gitt said. “Then, I turned and saw her sitting there with blood pouring out of her nose.”
Roth and Gitt left the game and went to Good Samaritan Hospital where Gitt performed a couple of hours of surgery.
“I don’t go anywhere without my plastic surgeon,” Roth joked.
Both returned Tuesday for Game 4.
