From Times Wire Reports

The Red River’s flood waters made their first conquest in Canada, surging into the dike-protected town of Ste. Agathe, about 15 miles south of Winnipeg. Most of the town’s 500 residents had been evacuated earlier. Meanwhile, thousands of Winnipeg residents scrambled for higher ground. About 3,000 rural Canadians and 8,000 Winnipeggers were ordered out of their homes ahead of the rising Red River, bringing the total number of Canadian flood evacuees to 28,000.
