A Passed Ball in Ninth Helps Foothill Get Around Canyon

Jamie Clark scored on a passed ball in the top of the ninth inning to help Foothill, ranked second in the county, escape with a 3-2 victory over host Canyon in a Century League softball game Tuesday.

Clark hit a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball for Foothill (20-2-1, 5-0 in league). Lauren Schwendimann gave up two hits in eight innings of relief to earn her ninth victory.

Veronica Lopez hit two home runs for Canyon (17-8-1, 4-1).

In another Century League game:

Villa Park 2, El Modena 1--Elizabeth Willey had an RBI single and scored the eventual game-winning run on a wild pitch in the second for Villa Park (11-9, 3-2).

In the Academy League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 7, Liberty Christian 6--Gini Carney had three hits, including her fifth home run, and three RBIs for the host Eagles (7-6, 4-1).

St. Margaret’s 10, Orangewood Academy 0 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Amber Arnold struck out 10 of the 15 hitters she faced in her first perfect game. Her twin sister, Abbey, who also pitched a perfect game earlier in the season, went three for three with three RBIs for the Tartans (12-4, 5-0).

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 1, Troy 0--Georgeanne Wisen pitched a two-hitter with no walks and Jennifer Link scored the only run on a throwing error in the first for Sonora (17-7, 4-1).

Sunny Hills 1, Buena Park 0--Alicia Davison (9-10) threw her second no-hitter of the season, striking out six for Buena Park (10-10, 0-5) in the loss. Sunny Hills (9-9, 2-3) scored the winning run in the top of the seventh on a fielder’s choice.

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 4, Rancho Alamitos 0--Mary Petrie pitched her fourth no-hitter, striking out nine, for Bolsa Grande (14-8, 6-2). Amanda Stone hit home run in the first and Crystal Abbott had three RBIs for Bolsa Grande.

Garden Grove 10, Santiago 0--Kathy Moore pitched a two-hitter and had three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs for visiting Garden Grove (11-12, 6-1).

Pacifica 10, Los Amigos 0--Senior Dara Tovias pitched a one-hitter, striking out four and walking none, in her first start this season for top-ranked Pacifica (21-1-1, 8-0).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 5, Orange Lutheran 1--Amanda Hallaway had two RBIs for 10th-ranked Calvary Chapel (18-4, 5-0).

Whittier Christian 3, Brethren Christian 1--Joey Miller allowed no earned runs for visiting Whittier Christian (9-10, 3-2).

In the Orange League:

Valencia 6, Anaheim 1--Kathleen Cunningham had three hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases for Valencia (10-12, 3-2).

Western 4, Brea Olinda 0--Andrea La Pena allowed only a two-out single to Stephanie Boyes in the second inning, struck out nine, and drove in two runs for visiting Western (13-8, 5-0). Adrienne Ratajczak had three hits, including her third home run, and three runs scored for the Pioneers.

Brea is 12-7, 4-1.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 11, Laguna Beach 1 (6, mercy)--Julie Collett had four hits and three RBIs and Kim Daniels had three hits, including a two-run home run, for Costa Mesa (4-11, 2-3).

Laguna Hills 6, Aliso Niguel 0--Leea Harlan pitched a six-hitter and Donna Maggetti had two hits and two RBIs for Laguna Hills (12-7, 5-0).

University 3, Estancia 2--Tiffany Waldman had two hits and two runs scored and pitcher Alysia Atchley struck out eight for University (6-13, 3-2).

In the Sunset League:

Los Alamitos 2, Huntington Beach 1--Mandy Rockwell pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and Sara Kahler hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the third for seventh-ranked Los Alamitos (15-5, 5-0).

Marina 6, Edison 0--Heather Hagen pitched a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts for Marina (11-8-1, 4-1). She was four for four with a triple and two RBIs.
