* Re “FDR Through an Unclouded Lens,” editorial, April 27: Franklin D. Roosevelt should not be shown in a wheelchair. He should be depicted the way he preferred, which is the way the public saw him. Contrary to the editorial, everyone at that time was aware of his polio, braces, etc. Even though he did not display it, he encouraged the media to write about it.

* The real question concerning FDR’s monument is not that the wheelchair should or should not be included, but rather is there a place on the monument for the names of the millions of eastern Europeans he donated to slavery under the grinning smile of Stalin at Yalta?

* As one who lived through the Roosevelt years, I would like to suggest to you that President Roosevelt’s handicap was totally unimportant to us. He was president and we didn’t have to tear him apart in those years. He chose not to be seen in his wheelchair. So why do you have to go against his wishes and press for a statue of him in a wheelchair?
