A woman whose 6-month-old daughter was snatched from a shopping cart in a supermarket parking lot Monday chased the kidnapper and wrestled away her infant, police said.

The 26-year-old mother was shopping at a Lucky market about 6 p.m. when a woman began following her and talking to her, Police Lt. Dan Johnson said.

After she left the store, the mother was approached by a man who distracted her long enough for the woman to snatch the infant sitting in a child’s car seat perched in a shopping cart, Johnson said.

The female kidnapper ran with the child and the car seat, but the mother caught up and struggled with her, getting her daughter back, police said.

The two kidnappers ran in different directions from the parking lot at Golden West Street and Yorktown Avenue, Johnson said.

The female kidnapper was described as white, in her 30s, 5 feet 6 and about 110 pounds, with a dark complexion and shoulder-length, bleached blond hair. She wore a blue tanktop and light-colored shorts.
