Big Inning Sparks Eagles to Title-Clinching Victory

Calvary Chapel, ranked 10th in Orange County, rallied for seven runs in the seventh inning Thursday to beat host Whittier Christian, 8-5, and clinch its second consecutive Olympic League softball title.

Amanda Hallaway had three hits and drove in two runs, including the game-winner for Calvary Chapel (21-4, 8-0).

Keri Przygocki (10-3) pitched the last six innings and struck out six.

In the Century League:

Canyon 14, Orange 0--Veronica Lopez (13-4) pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks for Canyon. Lopez had three hits and Lisa Hatter had two, including a three-run homer, for the Comanches (17-11-1, 7-1).

Foothill 8, El Modena 0--Lauren Bauer went four for four, Eryn Manahan had two hits, including a two-run triple, and Jenny Beltran contributed two hits and scored two runs for second-ranked Foothill (23-2-1, 8-0).

Villa Park 6, Santa Ana Valley 3--Alyson Hannigan pitched six shutout innings for her first varsity victory and Erica Shelton had two hits and a pair of RBIs for Villa Park (12-11, 4-4).

In the Empire League:

Kennedy 14, Loara 0 (6, mercy)--Adrienna Wilson was four for four with three RBIs and Cristen Fein had three hits, three runs and three RBIs for eighth-ranked Kennedy (18-5, 8-0), which scored 11 runs in the sixth inning.

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 3, Sonora 0--Christina Gibbons held Sonora to four hits and struck out 10 to win her 16th for La Habra (19-6, 8-0), which clinched at least a share of the league title with two games left. Jenny Topping doubled, tripled, and scored twice for La Habra.

Sunny Hills 1, Troy 0--Jennifer Hodgden pitched a two-hitter and struck out five as the Lancers upset the Warriors (14-13, 5-3) at Troy. Sunny Hills (10-11, 3-5) scored the game’s lone run in the fourth when Erin Jones’ two-out single scored Nicole Gevers. That was the only hit off Warrior freshman Lindsey Knoff.

Buena Park 2, Fullerton 1--Rachel Bashore scored on Alicia Davison’s triple in the top of the seventh inning as Buena Park defeated Fullerton (4-20, 1-7) for the Coyotes’ first league victory of the season. Davison had two hits and pitched a four-hitter for Buena Park (11-12, 1-7).

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 9, Santiago 2--Tiffany Wallace was two for two with two RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored for top-ranked Pacifica (24-1-1, 11-0).

Rancho Alamitos 7, Los Amigos 0--Trisha Heinlen pitched a one-hit shutout in a victory for Rancho Alamitos (10-12, 4-7). Heinlen also had a triple. Ha Nguyen had three hits and three stolen bases for Rancho Alamitos.

In the Orange League:

Western 10, Anaheim 0 (5, mercy)--Jennifer Kline had two hits, an RBI and a run for Western (16-8, 8-0), which clinched at least a share of the league championship.

Magnolia 4, Brea Olinda 3--Christina Ontiveros had a two-run single and Candace Garcia had an RBI single in a four-run sixth inning for Magnolia (8-11, 4-4).

Valencia 4, Savanna 0--Kathleen Cunningham had a pair of hits and drove in a run for Valencia (12-13, 5-3).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 13, Estancia 0 (5, mercy)--Danielle Heath pitched a one-hitter in her first career start and Sara Sheikh added a grand slam in the third for Aliso Niguel (12-11, 7-1).

University 6, Costa Mesa 1--Cindy Waldman, Kari Rowberg and Adrienne Rice went three for four for University (8-14, 5-3).
