A 19-year-old Oxnard man was in Ventura County Jail on Friday awaiting arraignment on burglary charges for allegedly breaking the window of a Ventura surf shop and stealing some T-shirts.

Malik Ali Rasheed was walking with the shirts a few blocks from the Waveline Surf Shop on East Thompson Boulevard about 10:45 p.m. Thursday when he was grabbed by two officers hiding in some bushes, a Ventura Police Department spokesman said.

The officers hid in the bushes after getting a call from witnesses who saw the man they believed to have broken into the shop, running down Figueroa Street toward the beach, the spokesman said.

Rasheed was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for glass cuts he alleged sustained while breaking the window of the surf shop, and then booked into Ventura County Jail.

Officers also recovered the six shirts stolen from the store.
