Cops to Seek Tips as They Serve Public

Law enforcement officials from throughout Ventura County will serve as waiters and waitresses at local restaurants the next couple of weeks to help raise money for the Special Olympics.

The Tip-a-Cop program will take place in Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Ventura, with the tax-deductible donations benefiting the more than 650 athletes involved in Special Olympics in the county.

Jeff Namson, a manager at Yolie’s Fresh Mex Grill in Ventura, said the event is a fun way to raise money for a worthy cause. The officers are paired with restaurant staff, and all tips raised by the cops go to Special Olympics.

Last year, the staff at Yolie’s raised $1,100, more than any other restaurant in the county, Namson said.

On May 19, officers from the Simi Valley Police Department and the state Department of Corrections will be serving from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Hudson’s Grill, 2900 Cochran St., Simi Valley. Call 581-1740 for reservations.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department will provide servers June 5 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Cafe Bellissimo, 105 Brazil St., Thousand Oaks. To make reservations, call 379-3811.

Members of the Ventura Police Department and the district attorney’s office will be working the floor June 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Yolie’s Fresh Mex Grill, 26 S. Garden St., Ventura. Call 652-0338 for reservations.
