Leslie M. Stines, 72; Building Firm Owner

Construction company owner Leslie M. Stines died Thursday at his home in Santa Paula following a brief illness. He was 72.

Stines was born March 9, 1925, in Windom, Minn., and was a 36-year resident of Ventura County.

An excavating contractor, Stines formed the Stines Construction Co. in 1962 with his wife, Marian.

Today, D & L Stines Construction continues as a testament to 50 years of hard work and perseverance, family members say.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Stines is survived by five sons, Eugene of Clarkston, Wash., Dean of Moorpark, David of Santa Paula, and Daniel and Ernest of Fillmore; two sisters, Eunice Snyder of Sioux City, Iowa, and Merna Mahrt of Okaboji, Iowa; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Everett Curtis Stines.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Heritage Square Chapel, 8th and B streets, Oxnard.

A funeral service is planned Monday at 10 a.m. in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ventura, with Pastor Marvin Way officiating. Burial will follow in Conejo Mountain Cemetery, Camarillo.
