Galaxy update--Coach Lothar Osiander and assistant Octazio Zambrano concentrated this week on putting some life into the offense, which has produced only six goals in seven games. Even shootout drills were longer and more intense than usual. “I think today’s training helped restore some confidence,” Osiander said Thursday. Cobi Jones returns to the lineup after resting a sore hamstring for the last two games. Those games also resulted in league fines of $1,000 against defender Dan Calichman for persistent arguing with referee Raul Dominguez in Washington and $500 against Danny Pena for a “violent and dangerous” tackle from behind of former Italian World Cup player Roberto Donadoni in the Meadowlands. Midfielder Chris Armas returns after sitting out the last game because of a suspension, and playmaker Mauricio Cienfuegos also is back from World Cup qualifying play with El Salvador.

Wizard update--Tonight’s game should mark the debut of former Glasgow Ranger and Scotland national team captain Richard Gough, who helped the Rangers clinch their ninth consecutive Scottish League championship Wednesday. The veteran defender will add experience to an already rugged Wizard back line, and he is likely to be given a quick introduction to MLS by being assigned to mark Eduardo Hurtado tonight. Kansas City defeated the Galaxy, 3-2, in the season’s first meeting, April 5 at Arrowhead Stadium. Midfielder Ryan Tinsley was red-carded in the Wizards’ last game and will sit out tonight’s match.
