An overturned trash truck blocked two of the three northbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway north of Rice Avenue in Oxnard for about 1 1/2 hours just as the Thursday evening rush hour began.

Traffic backed up as far as Central Avenue in Camarillo while crews worked to clear the freeway.

No one was injured in the 3:45 p.m. accident, said Dave Cockrill, spokesman with the California Highway Patrol’s Ventura office.

The entire freeway was closed for about 10 minutes at about 4:40 p.m. while the trash truck, which was towing a wood chipper, was put upright. All lanes were reopened about 5:30 p.m. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Southbound traffic was also snarled temporarily when a vehicle struck a wall next to the freeway at the nearby Rose Avenue offramp at about 4:20 p.m., closing the exit for about five minutes, Cockrill said.

The unidentified driver involved in the crash was transported to a local hospital.
