LAPD Officers Begin Holding Community Meetings on Eastside

Officers in the LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division have begun a round of community meetings in various Eastside neighborhoods in an effort to create stronger relationships between the officers and the people in the areas they patrol.

The program, which began in February, was launched by the division captain as part of the emphasis on community policing.

Once a month, all the officers assigned to a specific area gather for a day of training and discussion about local issues. Later in the evening, they meet with residents.

So far, there have been meetings in four of the seven districts. The next one is scheduled in Boyle Heights at the end of June.

“Not only does it help the community meet their officers, but the officers go out and hear community concerns firsthand and know there are people who care,” said Maria Calanche, local field deputy for Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alatorre.
